FAQ
- Which quality should I pick?
- About 75 is a good balance for photos. Below about 50, blocky edges start to appear.
- Which format gives the smallest file?
- AVIF is usually the smallest, then WebP, then JPG. PNG keeps every pixel exactly, so it stays large; it is best for graphics, logos and screenshots.
- What happens to a GIF?
- Only its first frame is used, so an animation becomes a still picture. Use Compress GIF to keep an animation.
- Why did my file get bigger?
- Files that are already well compressed can grow when saved again. The result is flagged, and you can keep the original.
- Is metadata removed?
- Yes. Camera details and location are left out of the compressed file, and photos stay upright.
