How it works

FAQ
What happens to a TIFF with several pages?
Every page becomes its own file, named with the page number, for example scan-page-2.png.
Which format should I pick?
Pick PNG for scans of text and drawings, because it loses nothing. Pick JPG for photographs, because the files are much smaller.
A TIFF file shows an error. Why?
TIFF has many rare variants, and a few cannot be read in a browser. The file is listed with a message, and the other files carry on.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become white. PNG and WebP keep them.
